Guide to Creating Connections

Getting involved in Loneliness Awareness Week

Together we can connect more people than ever before.

The flip side of loneliness is connection. Loneliness Awareness Week is the UK’s only week dedicated to inspiring people to make meaningful new connections through art, sports, literature, food, and much more!

It was incredible to see more than 5,000 events take place in 2025 - from digital choirs to coffee mornings, fireside chats to panel discussions, people across the world came together to reduce the stigma around loneliness.

Ready to start planning your activity for the tenth anniversary campaign in 2026? Taking part doesn’t have to be hard – anything that creates connection counts: from a simple coffee morning or group walk, all the way to a fundraising dinner or quiz evening.

This guide pulls together ideas from the history of Loneliness Awareness Week, from the simplest to the most inspiring, so you can choose what works for you, your friends, your office or your community.

Whoever you choose to connect and however you choose to connect them, we can support you every step of the way. Start here ðŸ‘‡

Coffee morning

There’s nothing better than coffee, cake, and a chat to start the day.

Walk and Talk

Walking is one of the UK’s favourite pastimes - almost 70% of us go for a walk every week and ‘getting your steps in’ has become a well known phrase. Why not go as a group? Lonely Girls Club held a series of events including a ‘Lonely Girls Walk Club’ which was attended by more than 100 of their community members.

Book club

Forget sharing your favourite show on Netflix, why not ask your organisation, friends, or community what’s top of their reading list and get together to discuss your favourite books. City Girl Network runs events across their network, including book clubs, cocktail nights, and a presence at the Wellnergy Festival. Their focus is on helping women, non-binary, and trans femmes feel more connected to their local communities.

Game night

Board game cafes are a regular feature on our high streets - host a game night with your local, or get everyone in your office to bring in their favourite game from home. Chance and Counters hosted four free Community Gaming sessions across the week at their Bristol cafes.
