This month, 11 year old Reva shares her top tips for feeling less lonely (transcribed by a helpful adult! 😀)
Hello everyone! July is really good because it's all about having fun and making new friends. You might be 10 or 100 years old, but there are so many exciting things you can do to meet new people. Here are my four ideas for what to do that will help you feel a bit less lonely in July.
July is a great time to play in the dirt! You could join a gardening club or help at a community garden. You can learn all about plants and how to make them grow. You can meet other people who love nature like you do! When you are doing something you like to do it's easier to make new friends.
During the summer I like to play sports outside. This is a really fun thing to do to when it's sunny and everyone is outside at the park. There are probably sports clubs or groups near where you live. You could try football, tennis, yoga or just throwing a ball around with your friends. When you're playing a game like cricket, it's easy to laugh and chat to your friends at the same time.
In July, there might be fun things going on near where you live, like music festivals, food festivals. I live in Bristol and we go to things like St Pauls Carnival, Bristol Harbour Fest and to celebrate different cultures and make new friends!
If you're feeling lonely and sad, I think it would be nice to listen to some music or watch a TV show that you really like. You could look out the window or go for a walk with your dog. That might make you feel a bit better!
Wow - let's hear it for Reva - what a legend!
In the month of July, let's take inspiration from Reva and spend time appreciating nature and the warmth of the sun. Whether you're getting your hands dirty in a garden, playing sports outside, exploring festivals, or making a taking a moment for self-care, there's something for everyone. I hope you're able to find some connections and feel a little less lonely in July.
