At Citizens Advice, we believe no one should have to face issues alone. We’ve been around for 85 years helping people find a way forward. We’re a charity working for the whole of society — whoever you are, whatever your problem.
Every year, millions of people come to us for support. Sometimes it’s because of money worries, housing problems, or employment issues. But each of these issues can come with something less visible—like the impact of isolation, stress, or feeling like there’s no one to talk to. That’s why we know loneliness doesn’t always look the way people expect.
Loneliness can affect anyone. It might follow a big life change, like losing a job, going to University, or moving to a new area. And it can be made worse by challenges like debt, rising living costs, or finding housing. For many of the people we support, it’s not just a passing feeling—it’s part of their day-to-day life.
While Citizens Advice isn’t a loneliness service, connection is at the heart of everything we do. Every time someone reaches out—whether it’s a quick question online or an in-depth chat with an adviser—they’re met with empathy, not judgment. We listen, we help people feel heard, and we work with them to regain control of their lives.

Our local Citizens Advice are at the heart of their communities, and are a lifeline for people who feel cut off. Whether it’s a friendly face, someone to advocate on their behalf, or support to access other local services and groups, we’re here.
This Loneliness Awareness Week, we’re proud to support the Marmalade Trust in spreading the message that loneliness is a natural human emotion - and no one should feel ashamed to talk about it. If you or someone you know is feeling overwhelmed or alone, know that support is available.
You’re not alone. We’re here to help.
